Acrylic on Canvas Board - 8” x 10”

In the height of summer, there is always something in the garden to enjoy. This beautiful red dahlia sitting in the bright sun caught my eye one morning. With her velvety petals so pleasing to behold, I knew I had to stop and shoot a picture immediately to catch the light at that moment.

I was compelled to transfer the vision to canvas as an acrylic painting so that I could savor the stunning vision over and over. I chose a turquoise background, and it thrilled me to see the color next to the bright red petals. My innate affinity for this color combination likely stems from my admiration for turquoise and red coral Native American-made jewelry. This love affair sprang from and was fostered by my many excursions through the Southwest.

I was delight in how the contrasting colors really make the piece seem almost electric, so I named her Dazzling Dahlia.
