Feed Me

Small, acrylic painting of a young bird gaping for handouts.

Acrylic on Board - 8” x 8”

A baby robin spent several days fledging on our deck and around the yard. I kept my cats secured and carefully guarded the dogs' comings and goings while we let this little guy get his bearings. Always hungry, his little beak wide open and his pleading chirps, he seemed willing to accept a mouthful from anyone.

I snapped a number of shots of our little visitor. One day we woke up to find him gone and we hoped for the best.

I first painted him with the deck as his background, but, as nature intended, he seemed to disappear, well camouflaged against the grain of the wood. A rich, turquoise surrounding allowed him to stand out, while the blue-green hue gave a nod to the color of the egg from whence he came.
