Green Wings
Acrylic on canvas board - 10” x 8”
A beautiful green-winged moth opens its wings to present a beautiful field of color. No doubt, the hue of this insect is intended to enchant another moth, but it is easy to think that this beauty was designed for the delight of all who can see it. Perhaps nature provided the appealing display so that one might pause before swatting the insect, the more typical human response to the sight of a bug.
I came upon this specimen at the Montreal Insectarium and took a photo so I could continue to enjoy the colorful insect. I ultimately decided the long-deceased creature needed to be immortalized in my studio by way of acrylic paint on canvas board. The vivid pop of purple I used for the background provides an interesting contrast to the statement of the soft green wings.
