Is there anybody who doesn't love marbles? A handful of marbles sits on a light blue tablecloth. Light passes through them, creating beautiful, colorful glow spots within the long cast shadows.

As children, we played games with marbles, like Keepsies and Bullseye. The games were entertaining enough, but I just loved looking at them. I would set them in places where the sun shone through. It was as if they were illuminated with a radiant, colorful glow.

To this day, I can’t resist buying new marbles. Most of them end up moving along and out the door in decorated potted plants and terrarium gifts. This practice affords me a chance to purchase more when they catch my eye at thrift shops, yard sales, and toy stores.
