Sun Storm

Acrylic on canvas - 20” x 35”

The ginger plant in this painting, one of my first floral pieces, was a gift from my mother, who was an amazing gardener. I have taken stalks to four homes since she first endowed me with a small stalk to start my patch. The specimen is quite prolific, providing a multitude of exotic blooms that emit a divine aroma. The flowers appear in midsummer and continue until the first freeze, when the whole plant dies back.

In this depiction, the bright sun sends rays into the garden, enhancing the beauty of the ornamental ginger’s delicate and enchanting flowers.
