Essential Workers 1

Two bumble bees visit a sunflower on a bright summers day.

Acrylic on Canvas Board - 6” x 8”

Two bees visit a small sunflower. I was able to capture these guys in action in the garden one morning, eager to transfer the vision to a small canvas with acrylic paint. This small art piece honors our hard-working pollinators.

A woman at an art festival I participated in stopped by my booth and picked up Essential Workers 1. She mentioned to me that she loved sunflowers but hated the bugs. I replied to her that there would be no sunflowers if we didn't have the bugs. She nodded and agreed, but with an air of believing that the inconvenience of the lives of bugs was just something we sadly just had to endure. She put the piece down, but I'm OK that she decided not to buy it.

Bumblebees are amazing insects and deserve reverence, not disdain. These selfless creatures truly know how to work for the common good. Plus, they keep our world green and thriving, and I can walk through my garden, which is usually full of them, and they never seem to mind my presence.

Bees are invited and welcome in my garden!
