Madonna and Child

A study on motherhood - See the process from beginning to end.

Not a portrait, but more a statement on motherhood. This piece is about the unconditional love a mother feels toward her child, in good times and bad. The dramatic backlighting perfectly captured the moment. I wish to transfer to the canvas the ethereal glow of the seated figures to communicate the maternal bond.

First, I map out the figures using acrylic wash. The first pass looks quite odd, as I tend to use the complimentary color for sketches. They won't be green in the end!

Next, I block in the background, then wrestle with skin tones.

Finally, I apply the details, the fun part!

Completed - early October of 2024.

Longhouse Studio

At the end of the Longhouse lies my favorite room.

Longhouse Studio is my sanctuary for creativity. Sunlight streams through the windows, and the warm, inviting atmosphere fosters inspiration. My rabbits reside in the studio, and my dogs and cats frequently accompany me when I paint. I am experimenting with translating visions of nature, wildlife, pets, and people into imagery through the medium of acrylic paint, but I do sometimes dabble in other mediums like watercolor, pen and ink, and oil pastels. With my art, I attempt to capture time and create a lasting connection to the beauty that surrounds us. Each canvas represents a fleeting moment and invites viewers to pause and reflect.
